Loveless Borderlands 4: Everything Confirmed About the New Vault Hunter Before September 10

Loveless Borderlands 4 details are now fully available after Gearbox revealed the new Vault Hunter’s abilities, combat mechanics, backstory, and skill-tree direction. Loveless the Hacker is scheduled to become playable on September 10, 2026, giving players a new character built around cybernetics, critical hits, status effects, stealth, melee attacks, and a digital virus companion.

The full reveal arrived through the latest Gearbox DevCast on September 3. It followed the character’s first teaser in June and a series of updates that gradually introduced her role in the upcoming content release.

Loveless will be available as paid downloadable content for $9.99 in the United States. She is also included with the Vault Hunter Pack and Super Deluxe Edition.

Her launch is particularly significant because it arrives alongside Version 1.10. That update raises the maximum level cap by 10 levels for every player. It also brings Story Pack 2 and Bounty Pack 5 to the game.

Who Is Loveless the Hacker?

Loveless is an ex-Anshin hacker who became an assassin. Her abilities come from advanced cybernetics and an unusual connection to a digital virus she created herself.

That virus is called Wyrm.

Unlike a standard artificial intelligence companion, Wyrm exists as part of Loveless’ shared consciousness. It can also take physical form through digistruct technology, allowing it to fight beside her.

The relationship between Loveless and Wyrm is central to the character. Their connection influences her abilities, story, combat animations, and overall design.

Gearbox describes Loveless as a techno-focused warrior. Her kit combines biological and digital elements while giving her several ways to attack enemies.

The character also draws inspiration from Ada Lovelace, a historic figure associated with early computer programming. That connection fits the hacker identity without defining the character solely through it.

When Does Loveless Arrive?

Loveless becomes playable on September 10, 2026.

That date is confirmed and coincides with the launch of several major pieces of Borderlands 4 content.

The September 10 release includes:

  • Loveless the Hacker
  • Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort
  • Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Vile Shadows
  • Vault Card 5
  • Version 1.10
  • A 10-level increase to the maximum level cap

Loveless is priced at $9.99 when purchased separately.

The character is separate from the narrative portion of Story Pack 2. Players who only want the new Vault Hunter do not have to purchase the entire story campaign.

This makes Loveless a standalone addition for players who are mainly interested in experimenting with a new playable character.

Loveless Has a Distinct Combat Identity

Loveless does not rely on one simple damage mechanic.

Her design connects several systems. Critical hits can help charge her Trait, while status effects provide another way to build the same resource.

She can then use that resource to strengthen her melee attacks.

Her Action Skills expand the idea further. One focuses on Corrosive damage and spreading effects. Another emphasizes movement, critical-hit damage, stealth, and decoys. The third brings Wyrm directly into combat.

This gives her a flexible role in both solo and cooperative play.

Rather than forcing players into a single weapon category, the character rewards combinations of attacks and abilities.

That makes understanding her Trait particularly important.

RAM Is the Core of Her Trait

Loveless’ Trait is called RAM.

RAM rewards players for maintaining offensive momentum.

Critical hits and status effects contribute to building the RAM meter. As RAM increases, Loveless receives additional gun damage.

When the meter reaches full charge, her next melee attack becomes empowered.

That system connects her ranged and close-range combat.

A player can begin an encounter by landing critical hits or applying status effects. Once the meter fills, the fight can shift toward an empowered melee strike.

The mechanic also gives Loveless a clear reason to combine different types of attacks instead of repeating the same action.

Her Trait is therefore closely connected to her three Action Skills and skill trees.

Plague Star Brings Contagion to the Battlefield

Plague Star is Loveless’ first Action Skill.

She throws a piercing shuriken that deals damage and applies Contagion to enemies.

Contagion deals Corrosive damage over time.

Its most important feature is its ability to spread. When affected enemies die, the effect can transfer to nearby targets.

That makes Plague Star especially effective against groups of enemies.

Instead of eliminating targets one by one, players can start a chain of damage that moves across the battlefield.

The skill also works naturally with RAM because status effects contribute to charging the Trait.

Plague Star therefore serves two purposes. It damages enemies while helping Loveless prepare her next empowered attack.

Gearbox also explained that the development team had to control how far Contagion could travel. Testing produced situations where the effect could move beyond the intended combat area.

The final version uses line-of-sight restrictions to keep the spread within appropriate encounters.

Visual Paradox Nexus Adds Stealth and Deception

Visual Paradox Nexus gives Loveless a very different combat option.

The Action Skill increases her movement speed and Critical Hit Damage for a limited period.

It also introduces stealth and a decoy mechanic.

When Loveless kills an enemy while the ability is active, she can enter Stealth and create a clone at the location of the defeated enemy.

The clone functions as a distraction.

That creates opportunities to reposition while enemies focus on the decoy.

The ability also includes a Kusarigama Slash that deals Radiation Melee Damage.

Using the attack from Stealth turns it into a Critical Hit and ends the stealth effect.

This creates a straightforward tactical sequence.

Loveless can move quickly, take advantage of increased critical damage, eliminate a target, disappear from enemy attention, and then use a powerful melee attack to continue the assault.

Only one clone can exist at a time, keeping the mechanic manageable during hectic encounters.

Malignant Construct Puts Wyrm in the Fight

Malignant Construct is the Action Skill most closely associated with Loveless’ story.

It summons Wyrm as a physical combat companion.

Wyrm can attack enemies with its tail and use a Radiation-based breath attack.

The companion is not simply an extra source of damage. It also creates a separate resource system through Symbiosis Stacks.

While Wyrm is active, Loveless can build Symbiosis Stacks. The stacks gradually decrease, while kills can help restore them.

That creates another incentive to stay aggressive.

Wyrm can also teleport toward an enemy and deal Radiation damage around the impact area.

Its additional attacks give Loveless more control over crowded encounters.

The ability makes Manifestation the most obvious skill-tree choice for players who want to build around Wyrm.

The Three Loveless Skill Trees

Loveless has three major skill trees, each emphasizing a different part of her design.

Virology

Virology centers on Corrosive damage, status effects, and Contagion.

Players who enjoy damage-over-time mechanics can use this tree to strengthen the status-based side of Loveless’ kit.

It works particularly well with Plague Star and the RAM Trait.

Hack / Slash

Hack / Slash focuses on critical hits, mobility, stealth, and melee combat.

This tree fits players who prefer an aggressive assassin-style approach.

Visual Paradox Nexus naturally complements this direction because it improves movement and Critical Hit Damage while adding Stealth and a clone.

Manifestation

Manifestation is built around Wyrm and Radiation abilities.

Players who want Loveless to function more heavily around her digital companion can invest in this tree.

Malignant Construct provides the foundation for that playstyle.

The three trees allow Loveless to move between substantially different combat approaches without changing characters.

Functions and Executables Expand Her Abilities

Loveless’ Action Skills also contain two additional ability categories: Functions and Executables.

Functions provide low-cooldown bursts of power.

Executables deliver stronger finishing effects.

These mechanics give the character additional tools between major Action Skill activations.

The result is a more layered combat loop.

Players are not limited to activating an Action Skill and then waiting for its cooldown. Functions and Executables provide additional opportunities to influence a fight.

That design fits Loveless’ fast-moving combat identity.

Critical Hits Play a Major Role

Critical hits are an important part of Loveless’ gameplay.

Her RAM Trait rewards them, while Visual Paradox Nexus directly increases Critical Hit Damage.

That makes precision-based weapons a natural fit for some builds.

However, players are not restricted to sniper-style gameplay.

Status effects, melee attacks, Corrosive damage, Radiation abilities, and Wyrm all provide additional options.

The character’s flexibility means a player can emphasize precision or build toward a more ability-heavy approach.

Her skill trees determine how strongly each part of the kit affects combat.

Corrosive and Radiation Are Central to Her Abilities

Two damage types appear repeatedly throughout Loveless’ revealed abilities.

Plague Star uses Corrosive damage.

Visual Paradox Nexus and Malignant Construct introduce Radiation attacks.

This combination gives her abilities a distinctive elemental profile.

Corrosive damage is particularly important for Contagion because the status effect can spread between enemies.

Radiation is more prominent in her melee and Wyrm-based abilities.

The combination also reinforces the contrast between her different skill trees.

Virology leans toward Corrosive effects, while Manifestation places greater emphasis on Wyrm and Radiation.

Loveless and Wyrm Share One Story

The connection between Loveless and Wyrm is more than a gameplay feature.

Loveless created the digital virus herself and eventually became connected to it through her own mind.

The resulting shared consciousness forms the basis of their relationship.

Gearbox has used that relationship as a major part of Loveless’ character presentation.

Her character short, Uncontainable, explores Loveless and Wyrm during a dangerous dive into the digiverse while they search for valuable Vault data.

The short also provides more insight into their shared personality and motivations.

This story gives additional context to why Wyrm can become physical and why Loveless treats it as an extension of herself.

Loveless’ Arrival Coincides With a Level Cap Increase

The September 10 launch is not only about the new Vault Hunter.

Version 1.10 also increases the maximum level cap by 10 levels.

That change applies to all Borderlands 4 players.

Players who purchase Loveless therefore receive a new character at the same time the broader game receives additional progression.

The level-cap increase also gives existing players another reason to return to their current characters.

For Loveless players, it provides additional room to develop her skills after the character becomes available.

The update also includes balance adjustments affecting the broader Vault Hunter roster.

Loveless Is Separate From Story Pack 2

One important purchasing detail is the separation between Loveless and the Story Pack 2 narrative content.

Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort costs $19.99 in the United States.

Loveless costs $9.99 separately.

The Story Pack introduces Providence, a tropical island region, along with new missions, enemies, bosses, activities, and loot. It also features FL4K and the search for their skag companion, Mr. Chew.

Loveless is part of the broader Story Pack 2 release but can be purchased independently.

That distinction is important for players deciding which content they actually want.

Loveless Joins the Post-Launch Vault Hunter Lineup

Loveless is the second additional Vault Hunter planned for Borderlands 4.

She follows C4SH, another post-launch character introduced through downloadable content.

Her arrival expands the playable roster while adding a very different mechanical identity.

C4SH and Loveless do not simply provide alternative versions of the existing characters. Loveless introduces a combination of RAM management, stealth, status effects, critical hits, melee attacks, and Wyrm-based combat.

That makes her one of the more mechanically distinct additions to the game.

What Players Can Expect From Loveless

The confirmed information gives Loveless a clear role before her release.

Her most important systems include:

  • RAM charging through critical hits and status effects
  • Increased gun damage through RAM
  • Empowered melee attacks at full RAM
  • Corrosive damage through Plague Star
  • Spreading Contagion
  • Increased movement and Critical Hit Damage through Visual Paradox Nexus
  • Stealth and clone-based deception
  • Radiation melee attacks
  • Wyrm as a physical companion
  • Symbiosis Stacks
  • Functions and Executables
  • Three dedicated skill trees

Together, these mechanics create a character designed around constant interaction between abilities.

A player can apply a status effect, build RAM, use a critical-hit-focused ability, reposition through Stealth, and bring Wyrm into the fight.

That combination is the central attraction of Loveless.

The Latest Status Before Release

As of September 4, 2026, Gearbox has completed the major reveal of Loveless.

Her origin, Trait, Action Skills, skill trees, Wyrm relationship, and combat direction have all been publicly detailed.

The confirmed release date remains September 10, 2026.

The standalone price is $9.99 in the United States.

Her launch will arrive alongside Version 1.10, the 10-level level-cap increase, Story Pack 2, and Bounty Pack 5.

For players interested specifically in the new Vault Hunter, the key features to watch are RAM, Contagion, Stealth, critical-hit bonuses, Wyrm, and the three skill trees.

Loveless is positioned as a character that rewards players who actively combine different combat systems instead of relying on one ability throughout an encounter.

With her full reveal now complete, the next major milestone is the September 10 playable launch.
