Bryce Young Passing Yards: 2026 Season Update, Stats and Panthers Outlook

Bryce Young passing yards have become one of the biggest statistical storylines surrounding the Carolina Panthers during the opening weeks of the 2026 NFL season. Young entered Week 4 having thrown for 939 yards in his first three games, averaging 313.0 yards per game while producing seven touchdown passes and two interceptions.

That start represented the most productive passing stretch of Young’s NFL career on a per-game basis. The former No. 1 overall pick had already surpassed 280 passing yards in each of his first three appearances, including a 361-yard performance against the Chicago Bears in the season opener.

The Panthers’ offense has also been among the league’s most aggressive passing attacks. Carolina entered Week 4 averaging 295.7 passing yards per game, while Young ranked among the NFL leaders in passing production, deep throws and total offensive yardage.

Bryce Young’s 2026 Passing Numbers

Young’s first three games produced a statistical profile that stood out across the league.

Through Week 3, he had:

  • 939 passing yards
  • 121 pass attempts
  • 72 completions
  • 59.5% completion rate
  • 313.0 passing yards per game
  • 7.8 yards per attempt
  • 7 touchdown passes
  • 2 interceptions
  • 96.4 passer rating
  • 55-yard longest completion
  • 7 sacks for 52 yards lost

Young’s 939 yards came from three very different games, yet his production remained remarkably high throughout the opening stretch.

His passing yardage totals were 361 yards in Week 1, 287 yards in Week 2 and 291 yards in Week 3.

That consistency has made Young one of the most closely watched quarterbacks in the league heading into the next stage of the season.

A Strong Start Against Chicago

Young opened the season with a major statistical performance against the Chicago Bears.

He completed 23 of 37 passes for 361 yards, averaging 9.8 yards per attempt. He threw three touchdown passes and one interception while recording a 110.3 passer rating.

Although Carolina ultimately lost the game 59-37, Young’s individual production was one of the clear positives from the contest.

The 361-yard performance immediately placed him among the NFL’s leading passers and showed that Carolina was prepared to put the ball in his hands frequently.

The Panthers’ offense produced 37 points despite the loss, creating an early indication that the team could become one of the league’s higher-volume passing offenses.

Young Followed With a Dominant Week 2

The second game provided a different type of performance.

Carolina traveled to Atlanta and defeated the Falcons 34-3, with Young completing 23 of 36 passes for 287 yards.

More importantly, he threw three touchdown passes without an interception.

Young’s 116.3 passer rating was his best rating of the season through the opening three games. He averaged 8.0 yards per attempt and consistently moved the Panthers’ offense down the field.

The performance also demonstrated that Young’s production was not dependent solely on playing from behind.

Against Atlanta, Carolina controlled the game, and Young still produced nearly 300 passing yards while helping the Panthers secure their first victory of the season.

Week 3 Presented a More Difficult Challenge

The third game against the Cleveland Browns was considerably more challenging.

Young completed 26 of 48 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Carolina’s 21-18 loss.

The 48 attempts were his highest total of the season, but his efficiency declined. His completion rate fell to 54.2%, while his passer rating dropped to 70.7.

Even so, Young still passed for more than 290 yards.

The game showed both sides of his early-season performance. Carolina has been willing to give him substantial passing volume, but aggressive defenses can make that approach less efficient.

Young was also sacked three times in the Cleveland game.

Carolina’s Passing Attack Has Changed

One of the most important reasons behind Young’s statistical improvement has been Carolina’s willingness to throw.

The Panthers entered Week 4 averaging approximately 44.3 passing plays per game. Their passing offense ranked among the league’s best in yardage, while their overall offensive approach placed greater responsibility on Young.

That represents an important development for the quarterback.

During his first three NFL seasons, Young often operated in offenses that struggled to generate consistent explosive plays. His 2026 numbers indicate a much greater willingness to attack downfield.

Carolina entered Week 4 with Young leading the league in air yards per attempt at 10.2, according to team statistics. He had also recorded 17 deep pass attempts of at least 20 air yards.

That downfield aggression has helped produce bigger passing totals.

Deep Passing Has Become a Major Part of Young’s Game

Young’s ability to push the ball vertically is one of the clearest changes in his statistical profile.

Through three games, he had completed nine passes of at least 20 air yards. Those completions accounted for 289 yards.

That level of explosive passing helped distinguish his 2026 performance from the more conservative numbers associated with earlier portions of his career.

The Panthers are not simply using Young to manage games with short throws.

Instead, the offense is giving him opportunities to attack defenses downfield, creating opportunities for large gains and helping him maintain a high yards-per-attempt figure.

How Young’s 2026 Start Compares With Previous Seasons

Young’s current pace becomes even more significant when viewed against his previous NFL seasons.

He finished with:

  • 2,877 passing yards in 2023
  • 2,403 passing yards in 2024
  • 3,011 passing yards in 2025

His 2025 campaign represented his first season above 3,000 passing yards.

Through only three games in 2026, Young had already accumulated 939 yards.

His career passing total had reached 9,230 yards entering Week 4.

The difference in pace is particularly noticeable when comparing his current 313.0 yards per game with his previous season averages.

Young averaged approximately 180 passing yards per game as a rookie, around 172 yards per game in 2024 and about 188 yards per game during the 2025 season.

His early 2026 average is therefore substantially higher.

What His Current Pace Could Mean

If Young maintained an average of 313 passing yards for an entire 17-game season, he would finish with more than 5,300 passing yards.

That would be an enormous statistical jump.

However, it would be unrealistic to assume that the current pace will continue unchanged.

NFL seasons contain injuries, weather games, difficult defensive matchups, changes in game script and variations in offensive efficiency. Quarterbacks can also experience stretches in which passing volume falls significantly.

The more reasonable conclusion is that Young has established a much higher baseline of passing production than he had during his previous seasons.

The Detroit Matchup Was a Major Test

Carolina’s Week 4 matchup with the Detroit Lions created an intriguing situation for Young.

Detroit entered the game with a 2-1 record, while Carolina was 1-2. The Panthers were coming off their narrow loss to Cleveland and were making a nationally televised Sunday Night Football appearance.

The Lions’ defense had struggled badly against the pass through the opening three games.

Detroit entered the matchup having allowed 299.3 passing yards per game, the highest figure in the NFL at that point.

That made Young’s matchup particularly interesting.

Carolina already possessed the league’s top-ranked passing offense by yardage, while Detroit had the league’s lowest-ranked pass defense based on yards allowed.

Injuries Added Another Variable

The Panthers did not enter the Detroit game at full strength.

Wide receiver Jalen Coker was dealing with a quadriceps injury and was considered unlikely to play. Coker had been Carolina’s leading receiver through three games, recording 18 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns.

Carolina had also placed Xavier Legette on injured reserve.

Those absences potentially reduced the number of established receiving options available to Young.

At the same time, the Panthers still had important weapons, including Tetairoa McMillan, John Metchie III and a productive group of tight ends.

That meant Young still had enough offensive talent around him to remain a major passing threat.

The Importance of Passing Volume

Young’s passing volume may ultimately determine how high his 2026 numbers can climb.

Through three games, he was averaging more than 40 pass attempts per game.

That is a substantial workload for any quarterback.

The benefit is obvious: more attempts create more opportunities to accumulate yardage.

The downside is that high-volume passing often occurs when a team is trailing or playing in a high-scoring game. If Carolina develops a stronger rushing attack or protects leads more frequently, Young’s attempt totals could decline.

The Panthers therefore need to find the right balance between aggressive passing and overall offensive efficiency.

Young’s Touchdown Production Is Equally Important

Passing yards are only one part of Young’s 2026 breakout.

His seven touchdown passes through three games have also been significant.

He threw three touchdowns in both Weeks 1 and 2 before adding one more against Cleveland.

His two interceptions have kept his touchdown-to-interception ratio at a strong 7-to-2.

That combination of production and relatively limited turnovers has contributed to his 96.4 passer rating.

If Young can maintain a favorable touchdown-to-interception ratio while continuing to generate explosive plays, his statistical impact could remain significant throughout the season.

Fantasy Football Impact

Young’s start has also changed his fantasy football outlook.

Through three games, he had produced 81 fantasy points in the scoring format reported by CBS Sports, averaging 27 points per game.

His passing production has been the foundation of that performance, while his rushing ability has provided additional value.

Young had recorded 16 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown through three games.

For fantasy managers, his high passing volume makes him an attractive option, particularly in matchups where Carolina is expected to throw frequently.

However, his Week 3 performance also demonstrated that passing volume does not always translate into efficient quarterback play.

The Bigger Picture for Carolina

The significance of Young’s early production extends beyond individual statistics.

Carolina selected Young first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft with the expectation that he would become the centerpiece of the franchise.

His first three seasons produced mixed results.

The 2026 campaign, however, has opened with a dramatically different statistical profile.

The Panthers are allowing Young to attack downfield, operate with substantial passing volume and take greater responsibility for the offense.

If that approach continues to work, Young could establish himself as a more productive long-term starter.

The challenge will be maintaining efficiency when defenses adjust to Carolina’s aggressive passing strategy.

Latest Outlook for Young

Young’s early 2026 numbers have given the Panthers a reason for optimism.

He entered Week 4 with 939 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. His 313.0 passing yards per game represented a career-best pace, while his 7.8 yards per attempt showed that the production was not coming exclusively from short completions.

The next phase of the season will reveal whether the improvement is sustainable.

For now, Young has demonstrated that he can produce large passing totals, make explosive throws and lead an aggressive NFL passing attack.

His statistical development will remain one of the most important storylines to follow as Carolina moves deeper into the 2026 season.
