Tim McGraw and The Chicks just wrapped their third and final joint stadium show of the summer, delivering a sold-out night at Target Field in Minneapolis on August 23, 2026. The performance capped a rare pairing that country fans had been buzzing about since February.
The two acts joined forces as part of McGraw’s Pawn Shop Guitar Tour, a 33-date North American run promoted by Live Nation. Only three stops on the entire tour featured The Chicks, making each appearance feel like a genuine event rather than a routine tour date.
How the Pairing Came Together
McGraw announced the Pawn Shop Guitar Tour on February 3, 2026. He revealed that three stadium shows would include special guest sets from both The Chicks and Lady A.
“I can’t believe they all agreed to join me!! THE CHICKS and LADY A! I dare you to find more hits in one show!” McGraw said in his announcement.
The tour takes its name from McGraw’s personal origin story. As a college freshman in Louisiana, he pawned his high school class ring for twenty dollars and used the money to buy his first guitar.

The Chicks joined Tim McGraw for exactly three stops on the tour. Each one carried its own significance for local audiences.

The Boston stop on July 30 became one of the most talked-about nights of the run. McGraw opened with a stripped-down acoustic segment featuring older favorites before shifting into a full-band set with the Dancehall Doctors.
The Chicks, dressed in matching Tim McGraw sweatshirts, joined him onstage for a joint performance of “I Like It, I Love It” that sent the crowd into a frenzy. At 59, McGraw performed despite having undergone double knee replacements and four back surgeries in recent years.
Minneapolis Brought the Tour Full Circle
The Target Field show on August 23 held extra meaning for McGraw. He first performed at the venue back in 2012, opening its inaugural concert alongside Kenny Chesney.
“Playing in Minneapolis was one of the best shows on that tour,” McGraw said ahead of the return engagement.
Sunday’s lineup ran through the afternoon and evening, with doors opening at 3 p.m. Timothy Wayne, 49 Winchester, and Lady A each performed sets before The Chicks took the stage, followed by McGraw’s headlining performance.
The Minneapolis date marked the third and final scheduled pairing of Tim McGraw and The Chicks on the 2026 tour, since the two acts do not share a stage on any of the remaining amphitheater dates.
Why the Chicks Pairing Stood Out
The Chicks remain the best-selling U.S. female band of all time, with more than 30.5 million albums sold. They hold 13 Grammy Awards and rank among the only female groups to achieve multiple diamond-certified releases.
Their appearance alongside McGraw drew added attention given their history. Frontwoman Natalie Maines drew controversy in 2003 after criticizing President George W. Bush during the Iraq invasion, a moment that shaped the band’s relationship with mainstream Nashville radio for years afterward.

Upcoming stops include Cincinnati on August 27, Clarkston, Michigan on August 28, and Grand Rapids on August 29, all featuring 49 Winchester and Timothy Wayne rather than The Chicks or Lady A.
The tour is scheduled to wrap on September 26 in West Palm Beach, Florida, closing out McGraw’s first full headlining run since his 2024 Standing Room Only Tour was cut short by health issues.
McGraw’s career includes more than 106 million records sold worldwide, 49 number-one singles, and 19 number-one albums. He holds the record for the second-most number-one albums in country music history, trailing only George Strait.
