Star Wars Zero Company: Release Date, Gameplay, Story, and Everything You Need to Know (2026)

The galaxy far, far away is getting a thrilling new chapter โ€” and this time, it plays out one calculated move at a time. Star Wars Zero Company is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Star Wars games in years, blending deep tactical strategy with an authentic Clone Wars story. Whether you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan or a strategy game enthusiast, here is everything you need to know about this highly anticipated title.

What Is Star Wars Zero Company?

Star Wars Zero Company is a single-player turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, and published by Electronic Arts (EA). The game was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan and is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Fans of Firaxis Games’ XCOM titles will be delighted to find a similar isometric gameplay setup โ€” the project has been widely described as “Star Wars meets XCOM.” With a team of former Firaxis developers at Bit Reactor and the storytelling pedigree of Respawn Entertainment behind it, Zero Company promises to be a landmark moment for the Star Wars gaming universe.

Star Wars Zero Company Release Date

Here’s the big news: Just days before its world gameplay premiere at Summer Game Fest 2026, a major leak dropped. A new report from the highly credible insider Billbil-kun has revealed that the Star Wars Zero Company release date is Thursday, August 27, 2026, launching simultaneously on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

If accurate, the release would place the game just before the busy September release window, allowing it to avoid direct competition with many of the major titles expected later in the year.

On June 3rd, 2026, the official EA Star Wars account on Twitter confirmed that Star Wars Zero Company would show off a new gameplay trailer at Summer Game Fest on June 5th at 5 PM ET โ€” meaning fans are just hours away from seeing the game in full action for the first time.

Star Wars Zero Company Pricing and Editions

The game is reported to offer a Standard Edition for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, joined by a Digital Deluxe Edition for $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on consoles. The report has confirmed there will be no early access included with the Deluxe Edition.

A physical release is planned for the Standard Edition, while the Deluxe Edition will be available digitally only. There is also reportedly an option to upgrade from the Standard to the Deluxe Edition.

Story: Set in the Twilight of the Clone Wars

Who Is Hawks?

The main character, Hawks, is a Republic officer who lands in hot water after being involved in a failed military operation. Hawks is a fully-voiced, customizable main character, with their gender and species determined by player choice. Hawks teams up with their clone friend, Trick, to form Zero Company as a means of bouncing back from their defeat. The story kicks into gear when Hawks is asked to investigate a dark-side cult working with the Separatists.

An Original Star Wars Story

Star Wars Zero Company features a gritty and authentic original story set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, putting players in control of an elite squad of cunning operatives. As an unconventional outfit of professionals for hire hailing from across the galaxy, Zero Company must set aside their differences to take on an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked.

Story-wise, the Clone Wars-set game will feature a healthy mix of main story and side missions. The side missions, while shorter and simpler than the main story content, are still hand-crafted scenarios with only minimal procedurally-generated elements. Between missions, players will get to spend downtime at the Den, the game’s hub area โ€” not unlike the underground headquarters in XCOM or the Abbey from Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Gameplay: XCOM Meets Star Wars

Turn-Based Tactical Combat

The moment-to-moment gameplay bears many similarities to XCOM. The player’s squad consists of at most four characters, each with three action points (AP) per turn. APs are used for movement, attacks, and other abilities. The squad also shares advantage points, which can be used on special abilities.

12 Character Classes

The game has 12 character classes, consisting of 8 standard ones โ€” Assault, Heavy, Sharpshooter, Scoundrel, Soldier, Gunslinger, Scout, and Medic โ€” and 4 “exotic” ones that only specific characters can choose. Only an astromech droid can be in the Astromech class, only Jedi Padawan Tellia Trea can pursue the Jedi Padawan class, and only Mandalorian Clyde Clervo can pursue the Mandalorian Warrior class. There’s one last exclusive class that Bit Reactor has not yet revealed.

Meaningful Choices and Permadeath

Every story squadmate is subject to the same permadeath rules as custom mercenary operatives, and the mechanical playing field is fairly even between them. This means every decision on the battlefield carries real weight โ€” lose a beloved squadmate, and they are gone for good.

The game promises “meaningful outcomes from player choices,” aiming to deliver an original Star Wars story from the Clone Wars era with deep turn-based tactical combat.

Characters and Squad Composition

The story introduces a number of authored squadmates who resemble BioWare companions, and every story character can be found and talked to at the Den. Story characters feel like BioWare companions with their conversations and side stories, while custom operators hang out like Mother Base soldiers in MGSV.

Hawks’ appearance and combat class can be fully customized, while recruited operatives can be personalized from a range of original Star Wars character classes and species โ€” including Clone Troopers, astromechs, and even a Jedi.

Developers: Who Is Making Zero Company?

Bit Reactor

Bit Reactor is the primary development studio behind Zero Company. The studio was founded by former Firaxis Games veterans โ€” the same team behind the iconic XCOM series โ€” making them exceptionally well-suited to craft a tactical Star Wars experience.

Respawn Entertainment

Co-developer Respawn Entertainment tackles turn-based action for the first time with this project. Respawn is already beloved in the Star Wars gaming community for creating Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, lending significant storytelling credibility to Zero Company.

Lucasfilm Games & EA

Electronic Arts serves as publisher, with Lucasfilm Games also collaborating on the project, ensuring the game remains faithful to the broader Star Wars canon.

Platforms and Availability

Star Wars Zero Company will be available on:

  • PC (via Steam and EA App)
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S

There is still no announced Nintendo Switch 2 version. Steam currently lists the game as “Coming soon.”

Why Star Wars Zero Company Is a Big Deal

Star Wars has had many celebrated games over the decades, but a proper deep-dive tactical strategy game set in the Clone Wars is a genuinely fresh direction. The combination of Bit Reactor’s XCOM DNA, Respawn’s narrative strength, and the richness of the Clone Wars era creates a recipe that fans of both strategy games and Star Wars lore have been hungry for.

Lucasfilm Games’ Executive Producer Orion Kellogg expressed his hope that “players walk away feeling like these characters are part of their Star Wars stories they want to tell,” adding that the game promises to surprise players with both the genre’s interaction with the storytelling and the places they’ll get to explore.

With the world gameplay premiere set for Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, and an apparent August 27, 2026 release date on the horizon, the wait for Star Wars Zero Company is nearly over.
