Are you ready to catch ’em all in the heart of the Midwest? Pokemon GO Fest Chicago 2026 is officially here, and it is shaping up to be one of the most exciting live Pokémon GO events in the game’s history. Whether you are a seasoned Trainer or a casual player, this guide covers everything — from dates and ticket prices to exclusive Pokémon debuts and insider tips — so you can make the most of this landmark event.

What Is Pokemon GO Fest Chicago 2026?

Pokemon GO Fest Chicago is a real-world, ticketed in-person event organized by Niantic as part of the annual Pokémon GO Fest 2026 global tour. The event takes place from June 5 to June 7, 2026, at Grant Park and across Chicago, running from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time each day. Chicago holds a special place in GO Fest history — the very first Pokémon GO Fest was held in Chicago back in July 2017 to celebrate the app’s first anniversary. Since that rocky debut, the event has grown into a world-class touring festival, and the 2026 edition is its grandest return to the Windy City yet.

Exclusive Pokémon Debuts at Pokemon GO Fest Chicago

This is where things get truly exciting. GO Fest Chicago 2026 brings several major Pokémon GO firsts. Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zeraora will all make their Pokémon GO debut at the event, along with Shiny Paldean Tauros.

Zeraora — The Thunderclap Pokémon

The Mythical Pokémon Zeraora will electrify GO Fest Chicago 2026. Trainers follow the story told by an event-exclusive Special Research and adventure throughout the park, leading to their own encounter with Zeraora. This story unfolds during your park session in Grant Park and leads to a Zeraora encounter the first time you complete a GO Fest 2026 Special Research line.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y

Completing at least two of the four Trainer Challenge Timed Research sets will unlock a choice between pursuing Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y. Trainers can select only one path and will remain on that path until the end of the research, so choose wisely.

Special Pikachu and Shiny Wash Rotom

Trainers who attend GO Fest Chicago 2026 may encounter Pikachu wearing a Team Instinct hat. If you are lucky, you may even encounter a Shiny one! Additionally, Shiny Wash Rotom will be available for the very first time at in-person GO Fest 2026 events — keep an eye out for event communications and park signage to learn how it will appear during your session.

Featured Wild Pokémon

Among the Pokémon appearing throughout Grant Park and Chicago citywide are fan favorites including Bulbasaur with Pikachu visor, Alolan Raichu, Electabuzz, Jolteon, Dratini, Lileep, Combee, Mudbray, Comfey, Dhelmise, Varoom, and Galarian Corsola — plus all forms of Unown.

Event Structure: Park Experience vs. City Experience

The Park Experience — Grant Park

Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Chicago will take over Grant Park with a full in-person experience built for exploration, community, and high-energy gameplay. Trainers can expect Special Research, four park zones, hourly Timed Research based on zone location, Team GO Rocket encounters, Shadow Raids, themed Eggs and research, photo opportunities, and a final Super Mega Raid battle to close out the park session.

Battle Ground LIVE! returns this year and can be found in the Recruitment Zone at Butler Field. Team GO Rocket has set up a hideout in Hutchinson Fields — complete Shadow Raids and battle Grunts, Team GO Rocket Leaders, and Giovanni to save Pokémon from their dastardly schemes!

The City Experience — All of Chicago

Citywide gameplay continues beyond Grant Park, giving Trainers the chance to extend their GO Fest weekend and explore Chicago while progressing through Timed Research in four different parts of the city, called City Districts. Outside of Grant Park, Trainers playing throughout the city during their ticketed event hours can encounter the same featured event Pokémon from the park.

Trainer Challenges and the Pokémon GO Expert Medal

There will be four Timed Research challenges focused on different zones within Chicago. Complete at least two Trainer Challenges to earn the Pokémon GO Expert Timed Research and receive your Pokémon GO Expert Medal. Each Trainer Challenge also awards Trainers a special medal, and you can complete all four if you choose. Trainers who complete all four City Adventure Trainer Challenge sets will unlock an additional bonus Timed Research.

Exclusive Bonuses for Ticket Holders

All ticket holders enjoy a generous set of event bonuses throughout their ticketed day in Chicago:

  • Up to 9 daily Raid Passes by spinning Photo Discs at Gyms
  • Special event-themed stickers available from PokéStops and Gifts
  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Pokémon during event hours
  • Increased chance of catching Pokémon with a Premier Ball
  • Exclusive Field Research tasks from PokéStop spins during ticketed event hours

Optional Add-Ons to Supercharge Your Experience

Trainers can make the most of their event weekend with optional add-ons, including the Raid Lover, Egg-thusiast, Citywide Gameplay, and Premier Access add-ons.

  • Raid Lover Add-On: Grants additional Raid Passes per day during the event, as well as additional XP and Candy when completing raids.
  • Egg-thusiast Add-On: Grants bonuses for hatching Pokémon, an increased chance at receiving 10 km Eggs from spinning PokéStops and Gyms, and 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event.
  • Premier Access Add-On: Available for $100, this includes expedited entry to the Pokémon Center Pop-Up Store, entry to the Premier Access Lounge with upgraded restrooms, portable charger kiosks with lockers, and seating, plus an exclusive collectible item available for in-person pickup during your park session.
  • Citywide Gameplay Add-On: Extend the GO Fest fun and enjoy a city experience throughout Chicago on the extra event day or days of your choice. This add-on provides an additional day of the citywide gameplay experience.

City Explorer Pass — For Those Who Skip the Park

Not interested in the Grant Park experience? City Explorer Passes for Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Chicago provide access to everything included in the Citywide Gameplay without the Grant Park Park Experience. It was available from June 4 through June 7, 2026, and once purchased, that account would not be able to purchase a Park Experience ticket.

Merchandise and Pokémon Center Pop-Up

Trainers can commemorate the event with an official Pokémon GO Fest 2026 merchandise collection at the pop-up Pokémon Center. All items are available via preorder only and must be picked up at Grant Park during your ticketed event day. If you already purchased your ticket and forgot to add merchandise, you can go back and complete additional purchases for add-ons while supplies last.

Safety, Logistics and Tips for Attending

Grant Park is routinely patrolled by the Chicago Police Department, who enforce park rules and ensure the safety of visitors across the campus and parking areas. Niantic has worked closely with the Chicago Park District and local authorities to develop a comprehensive security plan. Hydration stations to refill water bottles and water fountains will be located throughout Grant Park.

Pro tips for a smooth experience:

  • Data plan: If you subscribe to a data plan that does not offer unlimited data, ensure you have sufficient data to enjoy the event. Wireless networks can sometimes struggle under high demand — moving to a less congested area may help improve your mobile experience.
  • Charge up: Consider purchasing the Premier Access add-on for locker access and charger kiosks, or bring a portable battery pack.
  • Arrive early: Lines for entry and the Pokémon Center pop-up can grow quickly, especially on opening day.
  • Community events nearby: The Chicago Blues Festival is happening just north of the GO Fest play area and is completely free. The Chicago White Sox are also hosting a Pokémon GO Night on Wednesday, July 8th.

What Comes After Chicago — GO Fest 2026 Global

Can’t make it to Chicago? The adventure does not end there. Trainers around the world can join the accompanying global event, Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global, on July 11 and 12, 2026. For the first time, GO Fest Global is completely free for all Trainers who log in during event weekend. Everyone will have access to the featured Special Research, event bonuses, and increased Shiny encounter opportunities at no cost. Trainers who already encountered Zeraora at GO Fest Chicago will receive Zeraora Candy instead during the Global event.

A Brief History of Pokemon GO Fest Chicago

The first Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago in 2017 was widely criticized due to technical issues and connectivity problems. Since then, the festival has evolved into a global touring event, with recent stops including New Jersey in 2025 and international locations like Tokyo and Copenhagen in 2026. The 2026 Chicago edition marks a triumphant homecoming — this time with Niantic’s infrastructure vastly improved and a Mythical Pokémon debut to boot.

Final Thoughts: Should You Go?

Pokemon GO Fest Chicago 2026 is an absolute must-attend for any dedicated Trainer. With the debut of Zeraora, Mega Mewtwo X and Y, Shiny Paldean Tauros, and Shiny Wash Rotom — all within the iconic backdrop of Grant Park and Chicago’s vibrant neighborhoods — this is one of the most feature-packed GO Fest events in the game’s history. At $33 a ticket, the value is undeniable, and the community energy of thousands of Trainers exploring the city together is an experience no in-game event can replicate.

Whether you are catching your first Shiny, hunting Zeraora, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of the world’s greatest Pokémon mobile event, Chicago is the place to be this June.
