Philippines’ Bet Makes the First Cut in Bangkok
Angelica Lopez of the Philippines has entered the Top 25 of Miss Grand International 2026, announced on Saturday, October 10 in Bangkok, Thailand. The announcement came after the grand opening segment, where all 78 delegates introduced themselves in sparkling blue outfits. Pageant fans in the Philippines are now watching closely to see whether she can go deeper in the competition. At the time of writing, the grand final was still under way, and the winner had not been confirmed.
Best National Costume Win for the “Mangkukulam”
Lopez’s night started with more than a Top 25 spot. She was one of four delegates, alongside Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong, named Best National Costume. Her costume portrayed the “mangkukulam,” a witch figure from Philippine folklore. The 19-kilogram creation was designed by Patrick Isorena. It was paraded at MGI Hall in Bravo BKK, with a rag doll’s face opening up to reveal Lopez.
Other Special Award Winners at the Grand Final
Several fast-track awards were also handed out. Ecuador was named Country’s Power of the Year, Puerto Rico took the Grand Talent award, and Tanzania’s delegate won the Miss Popular Vote. Venezuela’s Lady Di Mosquera also moved into the semifinal group. Reports say she was the last delegate named to the Top 25. Ecuador’s Shyare Andrade was later reported to have advanced to the Top 10.
Who Is Angelica Lopez?
Lopez is 25 and comes from Bataraza in Palawan. She is studying psychology at Palawan State University. She placed in the Top 16 at Miss Universe Philippines 2022, won Binibining Pilipinas International 2023, and represented the country at Miss International 2024. On August 7, 2026, she became the first winner of Reina Filipinas Grand International. Her advocacy centers on self-love and confidence in natural appearance, especially brown skin.
The Road to Bangkok: Pre-Arrival Voting and Delegate Support
Lopez finished in the Top 10 of the Pre-Arrival Voting round. This earned her a dinner invitation with Miss Grand International founder Nawat Itsaragrisil, Teresa Chaivisut and reigning titleholder Emma Tiglao. She also had backing from fellow contestants. In the closed-door interview on October 4, four delegates named her as a winner they’d like to see crowned if they weren’t. They were from Ecuador, Tanzania, Chile and Pakistan. Vietnam’s Emoura Pham was named most often, by 14 delegates.
Why the Philippines Is Aiming for a Three-Peat
The Philippines has won two straight Miss Grand International titles, with CJ Opiaza taking the 2024 crown and Emma Tiglao winning in 2025. A win for Lopez would make the Philippines the first country to take three in a row. That is why her progress is being followed so closely.
A Last-Minute Venue Change From India to Thailand
This edition has had its share of drama. On September 3, the organization announced that all events in India were discontinued and the competition was moved to MGI Hall in Bangkok. The organizers cited the host country’s failure to meet its contractual obligations and agreed standards.
How the Final Rounds Work
After the Top 25 is set, the show moves through further cuts. The gala continues with rounds that narrow the field to the Top 10 and then the Top 5, before the new queen is chosen. The pageant is also streamed on GrandTV’s YouTube channel. The winner will succeed Emma Tiglao.
