Great American State Fair Performers 2026: Full Lineup, Dropouts & Latest Updates

The Great American State Fair has become one of the most talked-about events of 2026 — and not just for the music. Organized by Freedom 250 as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, this 16-day national exposition on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., has seen a dramatic reshuffling of its entertainment lineup since its announcement in late May. Here is everything you need to know about the performers, who dropped out, and who is still confirmed to take the stage.

What Is the Great American State Fair?

The Great American State Fair is a massive, free public event running from June 25 through July 10, 2026, stretching from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument. Organized by Freedom 250, a government-backed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the fair is designed to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial — 250 years of independence. The event features live music, carnival rides, immersive state and territory exhibits, patriotic tributes, innovation showcases, and family-friendly attractions, bringing together all 56 U.S. states and territories under one massive national exposition.

The Original Great American State Fair Performers Lineup

On May 27, 2026, Freedom 250 unveiled its initial entertainment roster for the Great American State Fair. The lineup was wide-ranging and nostalgic, drawing heavily from the 1980s and ’90s pop, hip-hop, country, and rock scenes. The originally announced performers included:

  • Martina McBride — country music icon
  • Vanilla Ice — iconic hip-hop artist known for Ice Ice Baby
  • Flo Rida — hitmaker behind Low and Good Feeling
  • The Commodores — legendary soul and funk group
  • Bret Michaels — frontman of rock band Poison
  • C+C Music Factory — dance music legends known for Gonna Make You Sweat
  • Milli Vanilli — internationally recognized pop duo (represented by Fab Morvan)
  • Morris Day & The Time — iconic funk act
  • Young MC — hip-hop artist known for Bust a Move

The announcement generated widespread excitement, with Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach calling it “a moment for America to come together.”

Who Dropped Out of the Great American State Fair?

Within 24 hours of the lineup being announced, the roster began to unravel. A majority of the originally announced artists publicly withdrew, citing concerns that the event — despite being described as nonpartisan — had taken on a strong political identity. Here is a breakdown of who dropped out and why:

Martina McBride was among the first to exit on May 28, stating she had been assured the event was nonpartisan and a celebration of all 50 states. When the reality did not match that description, she chose to withdraw.

Bret Michaels followed shortly after, saying that what had been presented to him as a celebration of the country “evolved into something” different from what he had agreed to.

The Commodores issued a statement declaring that their music has always been their voice and that they choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party, adding, “We support the betterment of all Americans.”

Morris Day & The Time announced via Instagram that they would not be performing. Young MC posted his own statement hours later, confirming he had also informed his agents he would not appear at the event.

C+C Music Factory’s Freedom Williams also cast doubt on his group’s participation, distancing himself from the event in public comments.

In total, six of the nine originally announced civilian acts — Martina McBride, The Commodores, Bret Michaels, Morris Day & The Time, Young MC, and effectively C+C Music Factory — either denied involvement or exited the event.

Who Is Still Performing at the Great American State Fair?

Despite the wave of cancellations, several acts remained confirmed as of early June 2026:

  • Flo Rida — still confirmed to perform
  • Vanilla Ice — expressed willingness to perform, though noted uncertainty about his scheduling status
  • Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli — still listed as a performer (note: Fab Morvan performs solo, as his original partner Rob Pilatus passed away)

It is worth noting that the “Milli Vanilli” performance will feature only Fab Morvan, and the original singing voices behind the duo, Jodie and Linda Rocco, confirmed they were not asked to participate.

Trump Steps In: The Rally to Replace the Concerts

Following the cascade of departures, President Donald Trump announced a major pivot on the event’s entertainment programming. Via Truth Social, Trump declared he would host what he called “A Rally to End All Rallies” on June 24, 2026, at 7 p.m. on the National Mall — one day before the fair officially opens — to serve as the grand kickoff event.

Trump stated: “We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep; we’ve told them all to stay home.”

The rally, officially listed as “The Great American State Fair — A Spectacular Celebration of America with President Donald J. Trump,” features a revised patriotic lineup:

  • Lee Greenwood — country singer best known for God Bless the U.S.A., who will open for Trump
  • Christopher Macchio — American tenor, set to perform Nessun Dorma, Hallelujah, and Ave Maria
  • The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own”
  • The Armed Forces Choir
  • The U.S. Marine Band (“The President’s Own”)
  • The Joint Armed Forces Chorus
  • The U.S. Army Chorus

Trump praised the additions on Truth Social, writing: “We will have the fabulous Lee Greenwood introducing me with what has turned out to be one of the greatest hits of all time, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.”

Other Potential Additions to the Lineup

Country artist John Rich publicly signaled his willingness to join the Freedom 250 event following the mass artist withdrawals, indicating that the lineup could still see additions before and during the fair’s 16-day run. Freedom 250 had not confirmed any additional civilian replacement acts as of the most recent reporting.

What Else Is Happening at the Great American State Fair?

Beyond the music, the Great American State Fair offers an enormous range of programming across its 16-day run:

  • State and territory showcases featuring exhibits, cultural programming, and hands-on activations from all 56 U.S. states and territories
  • Daily themed programming, beginning with “The American Canon: Opening Day” on June 25
  • Carnival rides and family activities
  • Innovation showcases
  • Military demonstrations and heritage tributes
  • Food and cultural experiences unique to each state and territory

The event is free and open to the public, with registration available online.

Freedom 250 vs. America250: What’s the Difference?

There has been public confusion between two separate organizations involved in America’s birthday celebrations. Freedom 250 is the government-backed 501(c)(3) created by an executive order signed by President Trump in January 2026, specifically to oversee marquee events including the State Fair, a Grand Prix, and the Freedom Trucks initiative. America250, by contrast, is the official nonprofit semiquincentennial commission created by Congress in 2016, partially comprised of equal numbers of Republican and Democrat lawmakers. The two organizations are separate entities with distinct missions and leadership.

Why Did So Many Artists Drop Out?

The core issue cited by departing artists was a disconnect between how the event was described to them and what it became in reality. Several performers said they were told the event was a nonpartisan celebration of all 50 states — comparable to a large state fair celebrating community. As the event grew increasingly associated with the Trump Administration’s political identity, many artists felt that participating would amount to a political endorsement, which conflicted with their personal values or professional brand positioning.

Freedom 250 disputed these characterizations, reiterating in a statement that the organization is “a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) dedicated to uniting Americans around the nation’s 250th anniversary.”
