Carlo Acutis miracles have officially reached their culmination as the teenage technology enthusiast becomes the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint. Carlo was just 15 when he died of acute promyelocytic leukemia in Milan in 2006 and has two miracles attributed to him by the Catholic Church. The historic canonization ceremony took place on September 7, 2025, at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
The journey to sainthood for this remarkable teenager began with extraordinary healings that the Vatican has officially recognized as miraculous interventions through his intercession.
The First Miracle That Changed Everything
The beatification of Carlo Acutis took place Oct. 10, 2020 after a miracle attributed to his prayers and the grace of God. In Brazil, a boy named Mattheus was healed from a serious birth defect called an annular pancreas. Mattheus, born in 2009, suffered from a rare condition that caused severe abdominal pain and made eating extremely difficult.
The healing occurred during a prayer service in October 2013. During a prayer service, the boy touched a relic of Carlo Acutis. Soon after, his vomiting stopped, and he began to eat solid food again. Medical exams confirmed that his pancreas had returned to normal, an outcome deemed “instantaneous, complete, and lasting” and scientifically inexplicable.
Medical professionals were stunned by the complete transformation. Matheus underwent several years of diagnostic tests, which revealed that his pancreas was healthy and his illness had completely disappeared. The doctors called it an inexplicable, complete healing.
The Second Miracle in Costa Rica
The second miracle that secured Carlo’s path to sainthood involved a young woman from Costa Rica. On 23 May 2024, Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to the intercession of Acutis. The miracle attributed to his intercession occurred in 2022, when a Costa Rican woman named Valeria Valverde, had fallen off her bike and suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Valeria, a 21-year-old student studying in Florence, Italy, experienced a life-threatening bicycle accident in July 2022. Her condition was so severe that doctors gave little hope for recovery. However, through prayers to Carlo Acutis, she made a complete and inexplicable recovery that medical professionals could not explain through conventional treatment alone.
Vatican Recognition and Canonization Process
The Holy See has recognized two miracles: the inexplicable healing of a Brazilian boy with a rare congenital malformation and the recovery of a young Costa Rican with a head injury after a bicycle accident. These cases were crucial to completing the canonization process.
The Vatican’s rigorous investigation process involved extensive medical reviews and theological examinations. Each miracle underwent scrutiny from medical experts who confirmed that the healings defied scientific explanation and occurred through divine intervention.
The Digital Saint’s Legacy
Acutis is regarded as a model for young believers and was canonized as a saint on 7 September 2025, alongside Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati. Acutis is referred to as the “Patron Saint of the Internet”, “God’s Influencer” and the “first millennial saint”.
Born in London in 1991 to Italian parents, Carlo demonstrated exceptional devotion to the Catholic faith from an early age. His passion for technology merged seamlessly with his spiritual life, as he used his computer programming skills to document Eucharistic miracles from around the world.
Impact on Modern Faith
The Carlo Acutis miracles represent more than just extraordinary healings—they symbolize hope for a generation seeking authentic spiritual connection in the digital age. His canonization sends a powerful message to young Catholics worldwide that holiness is achievable in contemporary times.
Tens of thousands of worshippers are expected to attend Sunday’s canonisation in St Peter’s Square of Carlo Acutis, who died of leukaemia in 2006 at the age of 15. The massive turnout demonstrates the global impact of his story and the widespread devotion to this young saint.
