BMW iX3 Electric Ushers in Neue Klasse Era with Unmatched Range and Tech

The BMW iX3 electric has just been revealed as the brandโ€™s first Neue Klasse SUV, signaling a bold step into the future of premium electric mobility. Announced at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, the all-new iX3 combines groundbreaking range, ultra-fast charging, and state-of-the-art digital technology, setting a new standard for the electric SUV segment.

With an impressive WLTP-certified range of up to 805 km (500 miles) on a single charge and charging speeds of up to 400 kW, the BMW iX3 electric is designed to compete at the highest level. Deliveries are expected to begin in Europe in March 2026, with U.S. availability projected by mid-2026.

Bold Redesign and Futuristic Interior

The design language of BMWโ€™s Neue Klasse shines in the iX3. The exterior introduces sleek vertical kidney grilles, sharp triangular headlights, and a wagon-inspired silhouette that gives the SUV a distinctive road presence. Inside, the cabin is futuristic yet minimalist, highlighted by a 43-inch Panoramic iDrive windshield display and a central 17.9-inch touchscreen. The illuminated button pods integrated into the steering wheel enhance the modern, high-tech atmosphere.

Performance That Stands Out

The launch model, the iX3 50 xDrive, is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque. This setup accelerates the SUV from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Its 109 kWh usable battery enables ultra-fast DC charging, capable of adding approximately 231 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Advanced Digital โ€œSuperbrainsโ€

At the heart of the iX3 is BMWโ€™s new โ€œHeart of Joyโ€ central control unit. This system manages power delivery, braking, and energy recuperation with remarkable efficiency, allowing up to 98% of braking to be handled through regenerative systems. Alongside this, BMW introduces a separate โ€œsuperbrainโ€ dedicated to automated driving, offering 20 times more computing power than its predecessors.

Automated Driving Powered by Snapdragon

In collaboration with Qualcomm, BMW equips the iX3 with the Snapdragon Ride Pilot system. This allows hands-free highway driving, automatic lane changes, and advanced parking features. The technology is already approved for use in more than 60 countries, with coverage expected to expand to 100 by 2026.

Global Launch and Pricing

Production of the iX3 will begin in late 2025 at BMWโ€™s new carbon-neutral facility in Hungary. European deliveries are slated for March 2026, while the U.S. market will see the SUV by mid-2026. The starting price for the iX3 50 xDrive is estimated at around $60,000. Additional models, including the iX3 40 sDrive and 40 xDrive, offering ranges above 300 miles and lower starting prices under $55,000, are expected to launch in early 2027.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability plays a central role in the iX3โ€™s development. BMW confirms that the SUV will have a 34% lower lifecycle carbon footprint compared to its predecessor. This achievement is driven by carbon-neutral production, extensive use of recycled PET, and the integration of marine plastics into interior materials.
