The first three singers guaranteed a spot in the Top 20 earned it through pure peer and industry recognition.
Jordan McCullough, a 27-year-old worship director from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, earned the contestants’ Platinum Ticket with a stunning performance of Bill Withers’ “Grandma’s Hands.” His soulful delivery had every person in the room on their feet, and his fellow competitors chose him unanimously as the standout of the Ohana Round.
Brooks Rosser won the family Platinum Ticket after delivering a deeply cinematic rendition of Noah Kahan’s “Everywhere, Everything.” Mentor Keke Palmer described his voice as one of the most magnetic she had ever heard on the Idol stage, and it is hard to argue with that assessment after his Hawaii performance.
Kyndal Inskeep claimed the tastemaker Platinum Ticket with a performance of her original song “Woman of Me.” Carrie Underwood told her it was impossible to look away while she sang, and Luke Bryan called her voice intoxicating. Ten contestants were eliminated after the Ohana Round, including Brenna Brigman, Bella Emry, Kiera Howell, Michael Garner, Chloe Lauren, Jacquie Lee, Sheldon Riley, Tianna Roberts, Bryant Thomas, and Brianna Yancey. Their exits were difficult to watch, but they served as a reminder of just how competitive this season truly is.
Standout Moments From the Top 20 Performances
The Top 20 episodes, filmed at the Aulani Resort across two nights, delivered some of the season’s most memorable television moments.
Daniel Stallworth made perhaps the boldest move of the entire competition when he chose to perform Lionel Richie’s own “All Night Long” directly in front of the man who wrote and recorded it. The gamble paid off spectacularly. Richie told him he took the song and made it his own, while Luke Bryan went a step further by suggesting Daniel might be the best pure singer in the entire competition. Kutter Bradley surprised everyone, including the judges, by stepping outside his country comfort zone to tackle a rock number without his guitar. The risk worked. Brad Paisley gave him technical pointers on mic work, and the result was the first time many viewers truly appreciated Kutter’s full vocal range. How to Vote This Season
One of the most significant changes for the top 20 American Idol 2026 phase is the complete overhaul of the voting system. The official American Idol app has been discontinued. In its place, fans now vote through three channels: social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok; text message by texting a contestant’s assigned number to 21523; and online at AmericanIdol.com.
On social media, voting is as simple as commenting a contestant’s name on the official pinned voting post on any of those three platforms. Each comment counts as one vote, and viewers can submit up to 10 votes per contestant per voting method. That means a dedicated fan can cast a significant number of votes across multiple platforms in a single evening.
America is currently voting to advance 10 of the Top 20 into the Top 14. The second group of 10 performed on March 23, and the results will be revealed during the March 30 live episode.
